About Our Asperger Family

We live in an Asperger’s world, full of love, challenges, and interesting people.  Can I possibly regret this?  Never.  I chose my husband for his love of learning, brilliance, honesty and quirkiness.  My son bears the same qualities that drew me to his father so many years ago.  Living from day to day has its difficulties, particularly now that our son is in school, but we’ll get through it… and I have the shining example of my husband’s success and happiness to guide the way.

AF3 lives in Florida with her loving, wonderful family.  After years of participation in social skills groups, therapies, and schools, people started sending their newly diagnosed friends to her for help and support.  She enjoys music, writing, reading, and (of course) family.

    Hi there!
I just wanted to let you know, you are giving me a world of hope. I’m knew to the amazing curious world that is Aspergers. I’ve been with my partner for over a year now, knowing all along that he had been diagnosed with AS, but had no idea what I was going to be faced with or how it would affect our relationship. My main concern was that from everything I’ve read, Aspies and long term commitment don’t usually mix, and I’m an old-school romantic haha. I dream of weddings and babies and houses and just reading the first few pages of your blog have defiantly made me feel at ease! My partner talks about settling down and getting married and I had convinced myself that he was only trying to tell me what I wanted to hear. This makes me so happy as I can’t imagine being with anyone else. 🙂

  2. Thank you for your kind words.

It’s been my experience that Aspies and long-term commitment definitely DO mix. Sure, it can be a rocky road, but loyalty is one of those sterling qualities our loved ones tend to have in spades. And honesty. And commitment.

You sound like a wonderful, caring person, and I wish you the best of luck in your relationship.

    -AF3
